What Charleston homeowners are asking for this year

Trend lists written for the whole country don’t always fit Lowcountry light — our low-angle sun, big porches and abundant windows change how colors read. These are the looks we’re actually being asked to paint in Charleston homes this year.

1. Warm earth tones take over from cool gray

The decade of gray is officially over. 2026 belongs to caramels, clay, cocoa and warm greige — tones that glow in golden-hour light and pair beautifully with the brass and natural-wood finishes filling Charleston kitchens.

2. Color drenching

Walls, trim, doors and even ceilings in one saturated color — deep green studies, plum dining rooms, inky-blue powder rooms. It’s dramatic, it’s cozy, and in older homes it beautifully hides busy trim transitions.

3. Marsh and sea greens

Muted sage, eucalyptus and marsh-grass greens are the Lowcountry’s signature neutrals now — calm, coastal without being theme-y, and forgiving in both bright sun and lamplight.

4. Finishes that work harder

The quiet trend: washable matte and eggshell formulas that give flat-wall elegance but survive kids, dogs and beach sand. We’re also refinishing more cabinetry than ever — see our cabinet refinishing service — as homeowners choose color over replacement.
